Perry Beekman is a rare commodity in the world of classic jazz. A gifted guitarist, vocalist and arranger, he brings a unique trio of musical talents to his passion for the songs of the Great American Songbook. When you add in his quick wit, smart sense of humor and impressive knowledge of the history of American popular song, you’ve got an uplifting, informative and highly entertaining musical experience.

Whether in live performance or on his many recordings, Perry creates a kind of musical poetry, with each tune polished into a sophisticated gem of expression. He stays true to the original melodies and lyrics of the American Songbook, yet wraps them in surprising harmonies, complex rhythms and a relentless sense of swing. The result: the style, sound and intensity of a big band distilled into a jazz trio.

Yet there is an easy playfulness in Perry’s music that makes it immediately accessible and engaging while still being innovative, fresh and complex. “I want people to feel something wonderful and uplifting when they listen to my music,” Perry says. “I want them to tap their feet and have a good time. I believe in the sound and feel of classic jazz, and I’m trying to keep the jazz guitarists and the singers of the past alive while still contributing my own musical interpretation.”

“Making old school new cool is a walk in the park for Beekman
who is indeed real deal talent …”

A skilled raconteur, Perry adds depth, dimension and fun to his performances by sharing amusing anecdotes, stories and insights that both inform and entertain his audiences. His ability to connect and create a relationship with his audience is yet another reason why was invited to perform a prestigious series of annual concerts at the famed Maverick Concert Hall in Woodstock, New York.

“…a polished act with ‘can’t miss’ tunes and once again Beekman delivers.”

Perry has also performed coast to coast in jazz clubs and festivals, such as The Metropolitan Room, The Palm Court at The Plaza Hotel and The Bar Next Door in New York City. “Jazz on the Plazz,” produced by Los Gatos Music & Arts in the Silicon Valley of California, booked Perry and his trio to perform the music of Cole Porter during their 2014 summer series.

In 2011, Perry set out to create a series of classic jazz songbook CDs, inspired by the arranging style of Nat King Cole and his timeless trio recordings. “I wanted to stay true to the purest form of the works of these composers,” says Perry, “And since I write my own arrangements, I’ve been able to create a distinctive context for my playing, singing and improvising while still honoring the integrity of these finely crafted tunes. And their enormously clever lyrics.”

The three collections of Perry’s Great American Songbook composers – Cole Porter (So In Love, 2012), Rodgers & Hart (Bewitched, 2013) and George Gershwin (‘S Wonderful, 2014) – have attracted glowing reviews. 'S Wonderful made it onto the CMJ (College & Independent Radio) Top 40 Jazz Chart.

“Eschewing vocal gymnastics, Beekman lets Porter’s lyrics
and melodies speak for themselves. Considering his dual talents,
John Pizzarelli might need to watch his back.”
